In a global organization like Rocket.Chat, cultivating a strong and consistent culture is essential to our success. Just as various Avengers from different universes assemble to tackle challenges and protect the world, our Culture Avengers come together as a cross-functional, multi-level team dedicated to help preserving and evolving our unique cultural identity. 

 

 

 

What is an Avenger?

An Avenger is a guardian of our culture and a role model for the values we aspire to embody. By stepping into this role, you’ll actively shape and influence Rocket.Chat’s culture, offering guidance and support on various initiatives.

 

Here’s the coolest part: You could be an Avenger! 

We open positions throughout the year, and every Rocketeer—regardless of their role or tenure—can apply to join this dynamic team.

 

Remember, being an Avenger is a role, not a job assignment. Your responsibilities as an Avenger should complement your regular work activities, and vice versa—neither should hinder the other.

 

What’s Expected of You as an Avenger?

“With great power a cool title for LinkedIn comes great responsibility.” Here’s what being an Avenger entails:

 

  1. Represent the Culture Avengers in meetings and discussions.

  2. Participate in bi-monthly 1-hour sync calls with fellow Avengers.

  3. Engage in discussions about ideas and activities on the Avengers channel, both synchronously and asynchronously.

  4. Develop and deliver projects that promote our culture at Rocket.Chat.

  5. Contribute ideas and identify issues that may impact our cultural landscape.

 

📣 Avengers are expected to lead by example. Issues like lack of engagement, resistance to feedback, or disregard for core values will be addressed directly. Persistent concerns may result in stepping down from the role.

 


Avengers Routines

The Culture Avengers have key routine initiatives that foster connection, engagement, and improvement:

 

🚀 OKRs: Supporting executives in aligning goals and tracking progress to ensure our initiatives deliver real value.

🗣️ eNPS Talks: Regular team meetings to discuss employee feedback, address challenges, and improve our workplace experience.

🏆 The Gabes: Supporting the development of the annual editions of this event, making sure we celebrate in true Rocket.Chat style.

 


Our Origin Story: why did we start the initiative?

No, it doesn’t have to do with Thanos… 😅 But with other challenges.

 

Back in 2021, Rocket.Chat was growing at lightning speed. This rapid expansion brought exciting opportunities but also posed a critical question: how could we ensure everyone felt connected in a fully remote environment, especially as our team expanded globally?

To tackle this challenge, we created The Culture Avengers: a diverse team representing various areas and seniorities, united to embody our DOTS and protect what makes Rocket.Chat unique—our culture.

Since its creation, The Culture Avengers have worked on initiatives that reinforce connection, engagement, and long-term cultural impact at the company. Here's a look at our journey:

 

2021–2022: Focus on Connection and Engagement

  • Launched recurring initiatives like Crew.Cast, Rocket.Chats, and the PTO Campaign to foster team bonds.

  • Introduced programs like the All Stars Program (now RockStars), The Gabes, and RC Birthday Celebrations to celebrate achievements and milestones.

  • Shared Key DOTS Behaviors and launched tools like Koko Thanks and Rocket.Chat Clubs to build a supportive, collaborative environment.

 

2023–2024: Strategic Renewal

  • After a brief pause in 2022, the program returned stronger than ever with renewed focus.

  • Recent initiatives include revamping DOTS and introducing DOTS 4U to keep our values alive.

  • Projects focused on long-term impact, such as OKRs, eNPS, and enhanced tools for employee connection and feedback.
